Morgannwg House Care Home

Morgannwg House Care Home is based in the historic town of Brecon, in the County of Powys, within the NHS area of Powys Regional Partnership Board, and the Social Area of Powys County Council.

Morgannwg House is within a few hundred metres of the centre of the town, close to all amenities such as shops, chemists, restaurants and hotels. The town is served by a regular bus service from the cities of Cardiff, Swansea and Hereford. The nearest train stations are at Abergavenny and Merthyr Tydfil, which also provide onward bus links to Brecon.

Most residents come from Powys, although we are able to accept people from out-of-county.

At Morgannwg House, we take an outcomes-based approach to care and support, by ensuring that the unique needs, wishes and preferences of service-users are taken into account from first assessment through to the provision of long-term support. We work according to the principles of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2014 in order to ensure that service-users are active partners in the service that they receive. Residents and their representatives are invited to participate in quarterly support planning meetings, and are encouraged to approach staff at any time with concerns or suggestions.

Morgannwg House Nursing Home is registered to support adults, aged 18 or above, living with the effects of Old Age, including People living with Dementia.

The home is situated close to the town centre of Brecon, allowing for access to all local amenities and public transport, but is also secluded and in a quiet area. The home can accommodate 20 people, all in single rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The home comprises a large dining area, two large lounges and a reception area. It benefits from a large, private garden which is easily accessed via ramps. All 20 bedrooms are large, allowing for personalisation of people’s private areas with furniture and mementoes of home.

The home is able to provide a GP for all residents, or we can arrange for the person to remain with their own GP if geographical distances allow for this. We arrange all necessary visiting services for the people who we support, including Dentist, Optician, Chiropodist, Physiotherapist, and Hairdressing.

The home’s philosophy is that quality care is delivered through the unique, therapeutic relationship that builds between direct care staff and the people who they support. We therefore carefully select the staff that are registered with Social Care Wales (SCW) who work at the home, and ensure that they are trained not simply in mandatory topics, but in important areas such as communication skills and person-centred support. This is supplemented by a strong emphasis on supervision and mentoring of staff, which encourages them to reflect and build on their knowledge and skills.
